HBO’s adaptation of Harry Potter is set to commence filming this summer at Warner Bros. Studio Leavesden in the UK, the same location where the original movie series was produced. Initially, I had reservations about how the TV show could establish its own unique identity, given the strong presence of the films in popular culture.

Recent announcements indicate that the HBO series will redesign certain sets and expand on Hogwarts, though some iconic locations will still be reused. For instance, the Great Hall is anticipated to remain as it is, which is necessary considering the influx of visitors at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. It seems unlikely that the original set will be altered, given its significance.

Details about the cast remain under wraps at this time, but there are circulating rumors suggesting that Paapa Essiedu might be cast as Snape, while Brett Goldstein is reportedly in line to portray Hagrid. I suspect we won’t have to wait long for a casting announcement as filming approaches.

Sirius Black has garnered interest from fans, though it might be premature to consider him since he doesn’t appear until the third book. Check out the original teaser trailer for Harry Potter below. Gary Oldman brought vibrancy to the role of Sirius in the film series, and while there’s no official frontrunner for the upcoming TV adaptation, Ben Barnes has long been a popular choice among fans.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Barnes acknowledged the fan interest, saying, “You wouldn’t believe how many Harry Potter books I’ve signed or Gryffindor scarves I’ve received as gifts.” He reflected on the 20 years since he was first considered for a younger version of Sirius Black.

Barnes mentioned the TV show seems to be leaning towards a younger casting approach, and he claimed he still appears younger than his actual age. However, not all fans agree; some point out that Sirius was 33 when he met Harry, and by the time the story is set, Barnes will be at least 46. A Reddit user noted that it may be a bit early to think about introducing Sirius, and for other characters, we hope to see official casting news soon.
