There was essentially no confirmed casting for HBO Max’s highly ambitious Harry Potter series coming up, but there are plenty of rumors about who is circulating which role. Now we have another, but this time it appears to be pretty much done, the new report says.
The role is Dumbledore, the most central figure in the series other than the Harry, Ron and Hermione trio. And according to deadlines, the actor who plays him is none other than John Lithgow.
Of course, Lithgow recognizes everything. He has 137 TV and movie credits. In the most recently Oscar-nominated Conclave, he was with HBO’s Perry Mason, the murderer of Scorsese’s Flower Moon. He played Winston Churchill. My first real introduction to him might be, as Dexter’s Trinity Killer.
WB, of course, has not commented on the report that he is almost on a contract, but this seems closer than most. Is Lithgow a good choice? He would be an American actor playing the role of the British, but again, he has done it before, especially as Churchill.

However, Lithgow’s casting has a major problem, but that’s not his own fault. It’s his age. Lithgow is still a great actor, but he is 79 years old. The show reportedly won’t air until 2026 or 2027. It is unlikely that HBO Max will pass all seven books in less than a decade, and still seem ambitious. Streaming era. So, at the end of this Lithgow’s tail, what is 90? 92? 95? It doesn’t seem to work, he’s talented, as he does.
This is not a completed transaction, but will take part in many other reports on who is considered for different roles. So far, we’re difficult:
Snape Sharon Hogan or Lesliemanville Paapaeshd McGonagallbrett Goldstein Hagrid Syrian Murphy, at least as supported by Voldemort’s Ralph Fiennes.

The most confusing pick on the list is for Snape Paapa Essay Doo. Not because of racial change, but because Snape is supposed to be kind of nasty, weird looking and scary. To the late Alan Rickman. Again, none of these have been confirmed yet, but that’s odd.
Lithgow can be seen wearing a fake beard on Dumbledore, but given the Times Span, the actor who will become over 80 years old before the first season of the show I don’t know if I can cast it.
