Although filming is set to start soon, HBO has not confirmed the cast for their upcoming Harry Potter reboots. John Lithgow previously stated that he had taken on the role of Dumbledore, but it seems he revealed that information sooner than intended.

There are rumors that Paapa Essiedu has been cast as Snape, but neither HBO nor Warner Bros. have verified this when prompted. It appears that a cast announcement is imminent, and I expect to hear news shortly.

I’m curious about how the new young leads feel and if they’re waiting to be introduced to the public. This will surely be a transformative experience for them. While there hasn’t been a formal casting announcement yet, the anticipation is palpable.

Sarah Aubrey, HBO’s director of IP, recently discussed casting in relation to the Harry Potter reboot. She stated to the Hollywood Reporter, “It’s a dream job for many British actors, but it’s also a unique opportunity since the roles we are casting will be held for a decade. We have to stay true to the source material, but there are exceptional actors like those who will portray Sirius Black in later seasons.”

She added that there can be some anxiety involved, as many associate specific roles with particular actors. However, she assured that the performances will translate well over the eight-hour series format.

This definitely piques my interest. Are actors already positioning themselves for roles like Sirius Black, who won’t appear until Book 3, which will be adapted in the third season?

While there’s no new information at this time, it’s exciting to see HBO addressing these topics. A Reddit user, Karshall321, commented on the quality expectations from the IP, while another user, carlos_the_dwarf, expressed initial skepticism about the series announcement, but acknowledged that HBO and Warner Bros. seem to understand the high expectations attached to it. Overall, the outlook seems quite promising.
