On Saturday, April 5th, the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) performed the soundtrack of the Bond film “Skyfall” at the Brisbane Convention Center, captivating nearly 2,000 attendees. This evening, they will shift their focus to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” delivering a live soundtrack performance.

Initially, I considered just listening to the score since I’ve never watched a Bond movie and wasn’t sure if Adele’s theme and the music by Thomas Newman would resonate with me. However, I was mistaken. QSO synchronized their performance with the film shown on a large screen, which led to two significant impressions. First, I became so engrossed in the movie that I lost track of the music, which faded into the background as is typical for me while watching films. Secondly, I recognized how essential the musicians and orchestra are to enhancing our film experience. Their live performance at the convention center perfectly aligned with the cinematic action.

I continue to be amazed and thrilled by QSO. The performance was conducted by Vanessa Scammell, and the audience thoroughly enjoyed every moment.

Thomas Newman composed the score for “Skyfall,” earning an Oscar nomination for “Best Original Score” in 2013. Although Adele, who wrote the theme music, was not present for last night’s show, her absence was hardly felt.

“Skyfall” stands out as an exceptional film, showcasing intense moments set against the backdrops of Istanbul, London, Shanghai, Macau, and Scotland. The film brought an end to Judi Dench’s character, “M,” replacing her with Ralph Fiennes. Daniel Craig’s portrayal of Bond depicts a character who is more mortal than in previous films—he fights, gets hurt, bleeds, and takes time to heal. “Skyfall” combines elegant fashion and stunning settings, contributing to its status as one of the top Bond films.

Tonight, QSO will perform live for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” I highly recommend attending if you’re a Harry Potter fan. Embrace the chance to dress up and immerse yourself in the magical world of Hogwarts and its adventures. It promises to be an unforgettable evening. Hope to see you there!
