Actor Jason Isaacs, known for portraying the antagonist Lucius Malfoy in six Harry Potter films, recently shared some unflattering news about the filming experience. During an episode of BBC’s The One Show, he admitted, “It’s a terrible confession to make. They weren’t that funny to make. Creating a large special effects film can be quite dull, but the joy comes later. I see and meet fans whose lives have been transformed by it, and I still enjoy sharing the films with my children, recognizing their impact.”

Isaacs highlighted that his experience as an audience member was far more emotional. He recalled, “I was in the movie, and I took my godchildren on a studio tour, and being in the Great Hall was an experience that moved me. Every time, it brings tears to my eyes. It’s incredibly touching, and there’s a special magic in those stories.”

The Harry Potter film series, adapted from J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books, has been a remarkable success, grossing over $7 billion worldwide and earning its place as one of the top ten franchises in history, according to Business Insider. The films sparked a range of spin-offs including prequels, merchandise, a TV series on HBO, and even themed amusement parks, creating a lasting legacy and a devoted fanbase, which Isaacs is well aware of.

Isaacs was involved in six out of the eight live-action Harry Potter movies, starting with “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets” in 2002, and continuing through “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” parts one and two, released in 2010 and 2011. “Something happened, and whoever combined those elements together created a sense of love and inclusion worldwide,” he stated.

Currently, Isaacs stars as Timothy Ratliff in the third season of HBO’s acclaimed anthology series, White Lotus. In this role, he plays a wealthy Southern businessman grappling with questionable past dealings and the fear that his hidden secrets may put his family—played by Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sam Nibola, and Sarah Catherine Hook—in peril.
