The upcoming Harry Potter reboot series on HBO Max is gradually assembling its cast in preparation for filming and is progressing as planned. So far, iconic characters like Albus Dumbledore and Severus Snape have been cast, but the main trio—Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger—has yet to be announced.
A brief teaser for the HBO Max series can be viewed below. Additionally, many supporting characters remain uncast, especially since it seems each season will adapt one of the books, and some characters won’t appear until later on.
One notable character is Bellatrix Lestrange, who is significant as she is responsible for the death of Harry’s godfather, Sirius Black—one of Harry’s last living relatives. Currently, this role has not been filled, though actress Lena Headey has been mentioned as a potential candidate in a Reddit discussion. You may recognize Lena from her performance as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones.
While this suggestion isn’t necessarily bad, many fans believe it would be tough to outshine Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal of the character. One comment noted, “Hard pass. She doesn’t have any chaotic energy. She will make a good Narcissa,” suggesting that they doubt Lena’s ability to embody Bellatrix’s playful yet malevolent nature.
Another commenter proposed Cristin Milioti for the role, stating, “Our iconic Sofia (the Penguin). Even better for WB as our contract with HBO is renewed.”
As mentioned, Bellatrix likely won’t appear for some time, so there’s no rush to cast her. Nevertheless, speculating about who might take on this role is an enjoyable aspect of the process, and hopefully, the final choice will be a good one.
