The immensely popular Harry Potter-themed game faced cancellation following criticism regarding its gameplay.
The eagerly awaited expansion for the popular Harry Potter-themed video game, Hogwarts Legacy, has been announced.
Originally planned for release this year, the expansion was expected to complement the game, which has reportedly sold over 34 million copies.
Although Warner Bros Discovery Inc. has yet to officially confirm the add-on, reports surfaced last year hinting at its existence.
There were rumors about a new storyline, with speculation that a definitive edition bundling all content would launch simultaneously.
However, Bloomberg now indicates that the additional content will not be released. According to their report, the amount of material planned for the expansion was deemed “not significant enough to justify the proposed pricing.”
Despite this setback, it appears that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, which has become one of the top-selling games, is still in progress.
The previous year proved challenging for Warner Bros’ gaming division, as titles like Suicide Squad faced critical and commercial failure, resulting in job cuts for developers.
Additionally, plans for a Wonder Woman game were scrapped, and three development studios were shut down.
Looking ahead, the company has reportedly decided to concentrate on major franchises, such as Harry Potter, DC, Game of Thrones, and Mortal Kombat, as noted by Eurogamer.

Set a century prior to the events depicted in the Harry Potter series, Hogwarts Legacy allows players to assume the role of students at a magical school. The game received favorable reviews, with fans applauding its faithful representation of the world inspired by JK Rowling.
Nevertheless, some negative feedback surfaced, focusing on gameplay issues and various technical problems.
