Drew Stolzan, a future star and renowned illustrator known for his work on films like Star Wars, ET, The Shawshank Redemption, and Blade Runner, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, as confirmed by his wife. Drew, born in 1947, is well-regarded for creating cover art for the Harry Potter films and has received numerous accolades for his artistic contributions.

In an emotional Instagram post, his wife Dylan shared the news, stating, “Good morning. I’m Dylan Stolzan, and I carry a heavy heart as I tell you that a few years ago, Drew received an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, a condition that significantly impacts neurotransmitters.”

She explained how the progression of the disease affects the hippocampus, which is vital for memory. This deterioration hampers the acquisition of essential skills like balance, walking, speaking, making decisions, and other functions.

Dylan mentioned that some doctors believe the disease might be reversible. For years, they have been following protocols that could potentially halt the disease’s progression, noting that Drew’s physical presence remains intact.

However, she expressed the challenges Drew faces with coordination and information processing. He has been aware of the supportive comments from fans, which uplift him, although expressing his thoughts has become increasingly difficult.

Dylan highlighted their 60-year marriage as a partnership in this challenging time. With help from John, who shares Drew’s insights through interviews, they are working together to preserve his legacy of love and joy through his art.

She emphasized Drew’s lifelong commitment to improving the world but poignantly remarked, “Like a flower, his season is over.” Dylan encouraged fans to keep sharing their thoughts and experiences, vowing to find smiles amid the difficulties and to cherish memories of Drew.
