Sarah Abramson, a member of the Bristol Quadball Club, describes Quadball as a mix of beloved childhood games. She explains, “It’s like playing dodgeball, soccer, and competing for a flag all at once.” Sarah, who is from the United States, adds that the sport is visually captivating.

Teams in Quadball typically include three chasers, two beaters, one keeper, and one seeker, and they play on about half the size of a soccer field. Instead of traditional brooms from Harry Potter, players use a standard PVC pipe to hold between their legs.

“It’s a lot of fun, but also quite silly,” says 25-year-old Sara. “You really have to be able to laugh at yourself.” Since its inception, Quadball has quickly gained popularity, leading to the formation of new teams, tournaments, and the first World Cup held at Oxford in 2012.
