Planned to run for over a decade, the series is produced by writer and showrunner Francesca Gardiner in collaboration with director and executive producer Mark Myro, as reported by The Guardian.
In a statement, they announced: “We are thrilled to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Taron, and Paul Whitehouse in the roles of Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell, and Filch.
“We are excited to showcase this remarkable talent and eagerly await their interpretations of these cherished characters.”
HBO has pledged that the series will be a “faithful adaptation” of the book by J.K. Rowling, who also serves as an executive producer.
The series promises to be “filled with beloved characters, intricate details, and dramatic locations that have captivated Harry Potter fans for over 25 years,” according to a statement from Max, HBO’s new streaming service, in April 2023.
“Each season will remain true to the original book, introducing Harry Potter and his incredible adventures to a new global audience. The classic, beloved films will continue to be central to the franchise and will be available for worldwide viewing.”
The premiere of the series is slated for 2026 on Max, HBO, and Warner Bros. Discovery streaming services.

Who will portray Harry, Ron, and Hermione?
The casting details for the main trio—Harry, Hermione, and Ron—have yet to be disclosed.
However, after Warner Bros. announced an open casting call for children aged 9 to 11 last fall, there’s a possibility they will be played by newcomers.
Additionally, there are rumors suggesting that Cillian Murphy is being considered for the role of Voldemort.
