The current owner acquired a copy at the Book Fair, according to the auctioneer. Plymouth Auction Rooms is set to auction a similar paperback edition on April 29th, with an estimated value between £2,000 and £3,000. Martha Colesman, a cataloger and appraiser, noted that it is one of the 5,000 first edition paperbacks released and has generated “a lot of interest.” This particular copy features several unique characteristics, such as the author’s name “Joanne Rowling” on the title page, the back cover’s misspelling of “Philosopher’s,” and the repeated phrase “1 Wand” on page 53. Earlier this year, a rare first edition of the same book, which was destined for disposal, sold for over £21,000 at the NLB auction in Pennington. Additionally, another rare copy fetched £36,000, having originally been purchased for just £10.
