The cast of HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter series is growing, with Nick Frost confirmed to play Rubeus Hagrid, as reported by Deadline. This adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s novel was announced in 2023.
Hagrid, who was famously played by the late Robbie Coltrane in the film franchise, is a half-giant serving as the gamekeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
John Lithgow has been announced as Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts, while Paapa Essiedu will portray Professor Snape, the potions master, with Janet McTeer taking on the role of Professor McGonagall.
HBO released a statement acknowledging that the high-profile nature of the series will generate rumors and speculation, but confirmed that they will only clarify details once pre-production is completed.
The Harry Potter series is set to run for ten years, with Francesca Gardiner as the showrunner and writer, recognized for her work on projects like “Inheritance” and “His Dark Materials.” Mark Mylod will direct and serve as an executive producer; he is known for his work on “The Menu,” as well as television series like “Game of Thrones” and “The Last of Us.” J.K. Rowling and Neil Blair will also be executive producers, alongside Ruth Kenley Letts under her Brontë Film and TV banner.
Frost is well-known for his roles in films such as “Shaun of the Dead,” “Hot Fuzz,” “The World’s End,” “Fighting with My Family,” “The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn,” and “Paul” (2011).
