John Lithgow is set to give his final lecture as Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s upcoming adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Variety has confirmed Lithgow’s involvement, although HBO remarked that specific details will only be finalized as pre-production progresses.
In both the Harry Potter books and films, Dumbledore serves as the wise and enigmatic headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, guiding Harry in his fight against the Dark Lord Voldemort.
HBO characterizes its “Harry Potter” series as a “faithful adaptation,” with a new cast aiming to engage a new generation of fans. The series, rooted in the original franchise that spanned from 2001 to 2011, is expected to unfold over a decade, with plans for extensive global filming.
The main trio of Harry, Hermione, and Ron will likely be portrayed by fresh talent, as Warner Bros. has opened casting calls for children aged 9 to 11, with auditions starting in the fall of 2024. The news of Lithgow’s casting was initially reported in conjunction with this announcement.
More updates are anticipated.
