HBO has officially finalized the cast of prominent Hogwarts professors for the upcoming Harry Potter series! The network has confirmed six actors who will portray key characters from the beloved JK Rowling series in this new adaptation. Get ready to see actors take on roles such as Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Severus Snape on Max.
Confirmed Cast Members
After weeks of speculation and unverified reports, HBO has revealed the first six cast members for the upcoming Harry Potter series:
- John Lithgow
- Paapa Essiedu
- Janet McTeer
- Nick Frost
- Luke Taron
- Paul Whitehouse
Specifically, John Lithgow (The Crown) will don half-moon glasses as Albus Dumbledore, while Paapa Essiedu (Gangster London) will portray Professor Snape. Janet McTeer (Kaos) takes on the role of Minerva McGonagall, the head of Gryffindor, and Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) will be playing Hagrid, the keeper of Hogwarts’ keys and grounds. Fans of the Harry Potter series can look forward to seeing these characters frequently in the new show.
New Additions to the Cast
Additionally, HBO has announced actors for the roles of Professor Quirinus Quirrell and caretaker Argus Filch. Luke Taron, known for his stage work, will portray Quirrell, while Paul Whitehouse (The Change) will bring Filch to life.

The Harry Potter series is expected to premiere in late 2026 or early 2027 on the Max streaming platform and aims to be a faithful adaptation of Rowling’s books. The series is being produced and written by Francesca Gardiner, with various episodes directed by Mylod. Warner Bros. Television and Brontë Film and TV are also involved in production, alongside J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
